“Specific benefits are given in the 2017 budget for the SME sector. We are happy about this move,” Sri Lanka Chamber of Small and Medium Industries President Mohideen Cader said.
The special focus is a boost to sectoral development and growth. The tax concession of 14 percent is an encouraging move, he said.
Consideration given to offer listing status to SMEs at the Colombo Stock Exchange is a positive signal. The move will regulate the SME sector where it could have more benefits.
“When considering Budget 2017, overall it is a good budget. We appreciate the recognition given to the SME sector and the encouragement given to entrepreneurs. This will have positive impact on the production and output of the sector and competitiveness will increase,” he said.
