Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage marks its 47th anniversary this year.
To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organisations, an awareness board on elephants for public display, was unveiled by Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, Shermila Rajapaksha, as one of the corporate social responsibility initiatives of the People’s Leasing & Finance PLC.
Deputy Director, Field, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Nawod Abeysinghe, Deputy Director, Pinnawala Zoo, Dilani Amarasinghe, Manager, Marketing, Communication and Sustainability, Hishan Welmilla and Branch Manager of People’s Leasing and Finance PLC, Kegalle branch Roshan Madawala were present. While realising the collective responsibility of educating the public regarding the elephant population in the elephant sanctuary, People’s Leasing and Finance PLC undertook this task with the objective of conserving the elephant resource under the direction of Deputy Director, Office, Mihiran Medawala, Development Officer Mrs. Chandrika Priyadarshani and administrative officers at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
