A Dialysis CRRT machine was donated to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital under the Singer ‘Thirst for Life’ program recently.

The Batticaloa region is greatly affected by kidney disease and patients transferred from the nearby regions too are treated at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. As the hospital’s Dialysis CRRT machine alone is not sufficient to meet the demand, a need of another machine has been a long felt necessity.

Among the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects carried out by Singer Sri Lanka, Thirst for Life is a prominent program. The project aims to provide Dialysis CRRT machines to identified needy hospitals in the country.

Thirst for Life project was launched in 2013 donating first two Dialysis CRRT machines to the Polonnaruwa Hospital five years ago. A Dialysis CRRT machine costs about Rs. 3 million.

Customers who purchase water filters from Singer showrooms contribute to the project, as Rs. 100 from each water filter is donated to the Thirst for Life project. There are seven such machines so far set up by the project.

Chief Executive Officer and Head of CSR Committee, Singer Group, Mahesh Wijewardena said, “Thirst for Life has set a good example for our business community becoming an encouragement to get involved in such noble projects. I hope our fellow corporate sector institutions will follow our footsteps to serve the society,” he said.

Singer Marketing Director Kumar Samarasinghe said that most of the victims of kidney ailments are from North Central region where farmers who feed the country are fall prey to this disease. “It is a great thing and we consider it as our duty to support these farmers through this project.”

Thirst for Life project head, Singer Senior Brand Manager Darshana Appuhami assured the continuity of the program.
