JAT Living launches another apartment project
Following its success with ‘77 on Fourth Residencies’ in Nawala, JAT Holdings took on a new venture to redefine vertical living with ‘96 Residencies’ in Pagoda under the JAT Living subsidiary, to build homes and residences with exclusivity.

The high-rise complex in Kotte comprises 60 luxury apartments ranging from 905 sq. ft. to 1,475 sq. ft with two or three-bedrooms.
Some of the key features of these apartments are fully air-conditioned units, fibre-optic connections ensuring high speed internet and HD TV, fully-fitted German kitchens, Italian tiles, and quality imported light and bathroom fittings. This project comprises a 15-storey tower with four floors of parking and 10 floors of luxury living.
Two new directors at Seylan Bank
Seylan Bank appointed Anushka Wijesinha and Sandya Salgado to its Director Board as Independent Directors on December 2016.
Wijesinha is currently the Chief Economist of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Head of the Economic Intelligence Unit. He holds a Masters in Economics and Development from the University of Leeds Business School, UK and BSc (Hons.) in Economics from the University College London, UK. Sandya Salgado specializes in Strategic Communications and Sustainable Business Management and brings thirty years of her management experience in both corporate and development sectors to the Board. She has a degree in Languages, an MBA in International Business and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM-UK). She also trained at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, in Strategic Communications.
Keerthiratne - Fellow of CIM, UK
Sanjiv Keerthiratne was conferred Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), United Kingdom (UK) recently. He is the 68th to become a Fellow (FCIM) from Sri Lanka. Keerthiratne is a Chartered Marketer and he is also professionally qualified in Chartered Insurance as a Chartered Insurer and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. He holds the ‘Commonwealth Executive MBA’ conducted by the Open University. Keerthiratne was the President of the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) from 2013–2015.
He is currently the Managing Director of Senaratne Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd., and Senaratne Global Services (Pvt) Ltd.
He currently lectures on Chartered Insurance Institute subjects and also at SLII and SLIM on insurance and marketing subjects. He is an old boy of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10.
Solar power plant set up at EFL warehouse

Export Lanka Freight Ltd (EFL) launched the grid-connected solar PV power plant at its state-of-the-art fashion and general cargo warehouse at the EFL logistics campus in Wellampitiya recently.
Deputy Minister of Power and Energy, Ajith P. Perera, Expolanka Holdings PLC Group CEO Hanif Yusoof and Managing Director, HiEnergy Services, Mohammed Bilal were also present.
With 2,326 solar panels installed, the plant is expected to deliver 78,154 kilowatt hours of energy per month. It has an energy production capacity of 651.28 kWp and has been recognized as the second largest rooftop solar power plant in the country, a company spokesman said.
“Our contribution to solar energy generation is a step forward in what we believe is the direction of the future,” said Saif Yusoof, Managing Director of EFL. “This project ticks all the boxes in our vision for sustainability. We’re also very positive on the outlook for renewable energy in Sri Lanka-as a country we’re very well positioned to harness natural resources for our energy needs.”
Expolanka partnered with HiEnergy Services in delivering the system. HiEnergy is a provider of solar energy solutions with a strong commitment to reducing the electricity dependency of the country on fossil fuels.
For EFL, the partnership meant that it had first hand insight into the energy concerns of the country and areas that could benefit from a private sector player. It was also responding to a call by the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy for the private sector to contribute to solar power generation in Sri Lanka. Known as Soorya Bala Sangramaya, this project envisions a solar electricity-powered Sri Lanka in the future.
ComBank opens money transfer company in Italy
Commex Sri Lanka S.R.L., a fully-owned subsidiary of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC launched money transfer operations in Italy, following the grant of a Money Transfer Licence from the Bank of Italy.
Commex Sri Lanka S.R.L. of Via Giacomo Leopardi, Rome, incorporated and registered in Italy under the supervision of the Bank of Italy, received the necessary regulatory approvals from both countries to engage in fund transfers on its own from a market that generates an estimated Rs. 3 billion in remittances to Sri Lanka per month.
The Commercial Bank is one of the first Sri Lankan banks to open a company in Italy for money transfer operations.
“We are delighted to launch the Commex operation as a fully-owned Sri Lankan Exchange House offering money transfer facilities,” Commercial Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Jegan Durairatnam said.
“The company was incorporated for that purpose, recognising the potential in Italy for remittance services to Sri Lanka.”
He said the Bank hopes to open branches in other Italian cities with high potential for money transfer services to Sri Lanka. The monthly value of fund inflows to the country from Italy is about Rs. 3 billion, the Bank said.
Commercial Bank has also tied up with international money transfer services Ria and MoneyGram offering Sri Lankan expatriates additional ways of remitting their earnings to Sri Lanka, supplementing the services already offered through its own money transfer product, e Exchange. The tie up with MoneyGram and Ria permits remittances to all parts of the world through Commex.
Video Games Festival at BMICH
The annual eSports Championship and Video Games Festival will be held at the BMICH on December 9, 10 and 11. The festival showcases Sri Lanka Cyber Games (SLCG), the country’s national eSports tournament, organized by Gamer.LK for the ninth consecutive year. SLCG caters to gamers from all regions of the country with qualifiers being held in the Northern, Central, Southern and Western regions of Sri Lanka, where players are brought to Colombo upon qualifying for the Grand Finale.
Alongside the eSports Championship, the Colombo Comic Con will be held on December 10 and at the same venue. Dedicated to comic fans and artists, Colombo Comic Con will feature a schedule of events showcasing Sri Lankan art, film, Cosplay and geek culture throughout the two days of the event.
SLCG 2016 will feature popular online multiplayer gaming titles in Sri Lanka, such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Dota 2.
The Colombo Comic Con will feature panel discussions with renowned personalities in the movie industry, game developers and comic artists, as well as laser tag competitions, cosplay competitions complete with a ramp walk to crown Sri Lanka’s best cosplayer as well as a unique blend of activities that are sure to excite and thrill its varied audience.
Visitors can swap, buy and sell geek comics, toys, miniature figures and other collectibles at the vendor stalls.
Dialog will power SLCG and Colombo Comic Con for the fourth consecutive year.
