National Chamber seminar on Anti-Dumping Law

The National Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Dept of Commerce will hold a one-day awareness seminar on the Anti Dumping Law, passed by the Government recently, on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chamber auditorium, D. R. Wijewardene Mw., Colombo –10.

The long awaited Act will greatly benefit the business community to safeguard themselves against imports which enter the country, under unfair trade practices and protect themselves from unlawful and cheap imports coming into the country, by proper legislation and safety measures.

The seminar will explain how anti-dumping and ‘countervailing’ measures be implemented and practiced.Director General of Commerce, Sonali Wijeratne will be the Special Guest. Senior officials of the Department of Commerce will make presentations on various segments covering the Anti Dumping Act and Countervailing Duties.

Under this law, the Department of Commerce will be empowered to initiate investigations relating to unfair business practices and take safety measures against unlawful surge of imports into the country.

State Counsels of the Attorney General’s Dept, will make presentations on the legal aspects of this Law and other activities involved in this process.

There will be a Q & A session at the conclusion of the seminar. Seats will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis.
