Cultural and charity Bazaar to bolster Sri Lanka-Indonesia ties

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Friendship Association (SLIFA) in partnership with the Indonesian Embassy in Sri Lanka organised a cultural and charity Bazaar at the Embassy premises recently, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of SLIFA and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Aruni Wijewardane was the guest of honour. Ambassadors and High Commissioners from numerous countries, sponsors, Sri Lankan Malays and Sri Lankan religious dignitaries also participated. SLIFA President Marleena Laxana welcomed the invitees, guests and participants.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Dewi Gustina Tobing who is also the patron of SLIFA, opened the Bazaar and said the cultural show and Bazaar was an opportunity to showcase the various dance forms and culture of the two countries. The longstanding relationship has grown over the 70 years and such events helps to further foster such relationships.

Foreign affairs Ministry Secretary Wijewardane commended the Indonesian Embassy and SLIFA for organising such an event which helps the people of the two countries to understand the diversified culture in both countries.

The cultural and charity Bazaar had over 50 trade stalls, displaying and selling a wide range of cuisine from Indonesia and Sri Lanka in addition to jewellery, clothing, batiks, household items, handicrafts, cosmetics and fancy items.
