
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) conferred the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) designation on 301 new members at the BMICH last week. A large gathering including the new members and their families were present. The 301 new ACAs received their membership at the annual convocation of CA Sri Lanka having successfully completed the Chartered Accounting program.
At the convocation, another 107 Chartered Accountants were elevated having been granted Fellow status.
Managing Director, Cargills Foods Company, Asoka Pieris was the chief guest. President, CA Sri Lanka, Sanjaya Bandara, Vice President, CA Sri Lanka, Heshana Kuruppu, Chairman, Member Relations Committee, Tishan Subasinghe and CEO, CA Sri Lanka, Ms. Dulani Fernando were also present.
Pieris said that the professional accomplishment of the new members of CA Sri Lanka comes at a time when the country is at a critical juncture due to the ongoing economic crisis. “Therefore, the new members of this prestigious institute who qualify as Chartered Accountants have a crucial role to play in this backdrop, while the Associates who receive their Fellow Membership must continue to play a greater role in driving our corporates to success and sustainability while being an excellent example to our younger members.”
Bandara said Chartered Accountants are gatekeepers, difference-makers, and the brains behind many successful businesses. “Take pride in your standing as a member of this prestigious body, which commands a history of over 63 years. From now on, you will be part of a prestigious league of over 7,900 members.”
He said the success of the accounting profession depends on the respect that members of its profession command. Chartered Accountants are in demand because they are good at what they do, and because ethics is a fundamental pillar of the profession. “Don’t compromise your values, and don’t forget that ethics and integrity will continue to play a crucial aspect of being a highly respected Chartered Accountant.” Subasinghe said, “I am certain our new members will play a tremendous role in helping propagate the importance of our profession across Sri Lanka and the world over, while our new Fellow Members will continue to play an influential role to safeguard CA Sri Lanka’s impeccable standing in the corporate world.”
The CA Sri Lanka qualification encompasses a multitude of critical skills ranging from management to finance, and business strategy and information technology among other pertinent areas and is the perfect qualification for any student who has successfully completed the GCE Advanced Level exam.
Chartered Accountants of CA Sri Lanka play an influential role not only locally but also overseas, serving across top corporate positions as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer, as well as Chairmen, Partners, Managing Directors, and Directors and other high-profile designations. To date, CA Sri Lanka has produced over 250 CEOs, over 3,400 CFOs and over 1,000 Directors.
