Conciliatory approach vital to overcome crisis

2 October, 2022

Acting Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies, Shehan Semasinghe, said it is important for everyone to cooperate to overcome the economic challenges facing the country.

He was speaking at a discussion with the heads of state banks on overcoming the economic crisis at the Ministry premises last week.

The minister said Government and state bank officials should adopt a conciliatory and collective approach in banking affairs, including loan repayments, in view of the oppressive economic situation that the public is facing.

Banks should adopt short and long-term lenient practices to deal with the situation and everyone should collaborate to overcome it. The Government is taking measures to ensure economic stability.

Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Additional Secretary of the Ministry, Director General, Department of Treasury Operations, Director General, Department of Public Enterprises, officials of the Ministry, and the top management of state banks were present.
