Leema Creations, an interior solution provider and furniture manufacturer, has teamed up with the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), as a part of the company’s CSR drive, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to provide practical training to technical and vocational education students.
State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation, Dr. Seetha Arambepola was the chief guest. Ministry Secretary Ms Deepa Liyanage, VTA Chairman Eranga Basnayaka, Founder Chairman of Leema Creations, Channa Wijesekara and Managing Director Shamika Wijesekara were also present.
Hands-on vocational training plays one of the most critical roles in the skills development of youth in the country and their employability. Although there are over 400 state and private technical education institutes in the country to impart theoretical education, providing on-the-job practical training has always been a dire issue. Wijesekara has written several important books on wood technology. At the ceremony, Wijesekara launched his latest book, ‘Lee Weda Prayogika Patamalawa’ (Practicals on Woodwork), and the first copy was presented to the Minister Dr. Arambepola.
Leema Creations manufacturing plant at Dompe is one of the largest and modern carpentry plants in Sri Lanka, with a floor area of over 60,000 sq. ft. The plant consists of state-of-the-art computerised precision machinery.
The management of Leema Creations offers the best possible hands-on technical training to the students and make them employment ready, productive, and skilled wood technicians.
