Raid Amazones – women’s adventure challenge

Around 253 French women athletes and officials arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Monday from Paris, France to participate in the largest sports tourism activity in the island after the Covid-19 pandemic.

They are participating in the largest women’s adventure challenge tournament, ‘Raid Amazones’ renowned all over the world for its variety.

The event takes place using the iconic Sigiriya rock fortress as the backdrop.

They were given a warm welcome by the officials of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Airport and aviation Services, Sri Lankan Airlines. The guests were also given souvenirs by the SLTPB officials in order to mark their arrival in Sri Lanka. Raid Amazones is a popular annual adventure trail which originates from France, and the participants will involve themselves in a wide range of adventure activities, including mountain biking, canoeing, riding, running, and archery using the exotic tourist destination as a backdrop.

The SLTPB officials who welcomed the Raid Amazon participants included the Managing Director of SLTPB, Ms. Padma Siriwardene and staff of the SLTPB Tourism Information Centre, BIA .

All steps have been taken to hold the iconic ‘Raid Amazones’ event, under two sessions. Around 600 participants are expected to join this tournament and the first leg of the tour which began on March 16 ends on March 22. The second leg will be from March 28 to April 6, 2022. The event takes place covering Sigiriya, Kavudulla, Medirigiriya, Wewala, Kandalama and Mahawilgamuwa.

This time, Raid Amazones is holding its 20th sporting event to date.
