Sisu Dirimaga, the sustainability arm of fashion retail chain, Fashion Bug has continued to uplift the educational aspects of local students since its launch in 2013.
The latest program under Sisu Dirimaga was conducted recently for Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students to discuss the impact of social media on education.
With the increasing use of mobile and computer devices for educational purposes, students are exposed to the digital world more than before.
Identifying a timely topic, the program not only discussed the safe use of mobile phones, but also the importance of responsible usage of various social media platforms, the advantages and disadvantages of social media and the productive use of education apps.
Deputy Director of the Telecom Regulatory Commission Mrs. Menaka Pathirana conducted the session in Sinhala, for students of Central College, Kotahena, while Corporate Trainer, Ismail Azeez, administered the program in Tamil at Central Hindu Maha Vidyalaya, Kotahena.
CEO of Fashion Bug, Shabier Subian said, “At present, most of the learning takes place on the digital platforms, and children are online more than they used to.
In such a situation, we cannot prohibit the use of mobile phones. Our duty is to educate them on the right and wrong so that they can make informed decisions when using social media. Our Sisu Dirimaga program has continued to support the well-being of students in Sri Lanka.’’
