CMI-KPMG to unravel untapped potential of GSP-Plus

9 July, 2017

As GSP plus provides an importer in the EU zero duty benefit on importation of listed goods, Sri Lankan exporters must negotiate favourable export prices for their goods with buyers. Almost 6,200 eligible products under the GSP plus scheme could be exported to the EU duty free.

To provide insights on how exporters can gain valuable advantage and fully utilize this opportunity, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) – UK’s Sri Lanka Branch, has organised a knowledge sharing forum, titled ‘GSP Plus: Unlocking untapped potential’ in association with its knowledge partner, KPMG in Sri Lanka.

The forum will be held on July 10 from 5 to 7.30 p.m. at Jetwing Hotel, Ward Place, Colombo 7.

CMI Sri Lanka President Malraj B. Kiriella said, “While gaining GSP-Plus is undoubtedly a positive development for Sri Lanka’s private sector, it’s impact will be realized only if the private sector is geared to fully utilize this opportunity. Thus the objective of the event is to provide an overview of the opportunities to fully leverage the benefits of GSP-Plus.”

The event will feature a presentation on the topic by Secretary General, Joint Apparel Association Forum, M.P. T. Cooray and Principal, Tax and Regulatory, KPMG, Suresh R. I. Perera, followed by an interactive panel discussion moderated by Managing Partner, KPMG, Reyaz Mihular.

The panel will include: Chairperson and Chief Executive, EDB Sri Lanka, Indira Malwatte, Managing Director, Nidro Supply (Pvt) Ltd., Dawn S. Austin, General Manager, Global Fisheries Pvt Ltd., Channa Weerathunga, President, National Chamber of Exporters, Ranmal G. Jayasinghe, Deputy Chairman, Joint Apparel Association Forum, Yohan Lawrence.
