Around 200 employees of Human Capital Solutions (HCS) known as manpower employees will be recruited to the Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) in batches each year, Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando told the media last week.
HCS employees comprising around 2,180 have been on the street for over 50 days demanding they be recruited to the SLT in toto immediately. However, the Minister concerned said HCS employees could be recruited only in batches following a training program that they will have to undergo before recruitment.
‘We have already recruited over 100 employees and this year around 400 will be absorbed into the company. Steps have been taken to recruit around 200 in batches each year,” Fernando said.
However, SLT’s permanent cadre employees are not pleased with the decision to absorb the HCS workers as it violates the Staff Recruitment and Promotion Scheme (SRPS) and also that their grading will be affected if qualified employees are recruited.
HCS which was formed by the former government, is a subsidiary of the SLT which comprises a permanent cadre of around 4,500 employees.
“We will ensure that there will be no injustice to any employee in the SLT due to the recruitment program,” Fernando said. SLT is a listed company with 47 percent shares held by a Malaysian company.
