
Managing Director and CEO of Piramal Glass Ceylon PLC, Sanjay Tiwari was elected as the President of the Sri Lanka Ceramics and Glass Council at its third AGM at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo recently.
Tiwari who took over from CEO, Lanka Walltiles PLC, Mahendra Jayasekera, is the fourth President of the Council.
The new president commended the efforts and the contribution of all the past Presidents, Sunil Wijesinha, Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya and Mahendra Jayasekera.
He outlined the contribution of the Ceramic and Glass Industry to the overall economy of the country and their constant efforts in building the brand image of Sri Lanka.
He also spoke on the current challenges faced by the industry and the need for support from the Government.
He thanked Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, Export Development Board, The Employers Federation and ITI of Sri Lanka for their constant support.
The following were elected to the Board of Management of the Council:
President - Sanjay Tiwari (Piramal Glass Ceylon); Vice President - Dr. Jagath Pieris (Royal Fernwood Porcelain); Secretary - Navindra Abeysekera (Lanka Ceramic); Assistant Secretary - Wasaba Jayasekera (Dankotuwa Porcelain ); Treasurer - Yoshinarari Shimaya (Noritake Lanka Porcelain); Immediate Past President - Mahendra Jayasekera (Lanka Walltiles).
Committee Members: Anura Warnakulasooriya (Midaya Ceramics) and Wipul Kularathna (Samson RajarataTiles).
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce functions as the Secretariat to the Council.
The chief guest for the event was Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy. He gave an insight to the current economic situation of the country briefing on the past and subsequent developments.
