Abans presents 100th laptop to deserving student

20 November, 2016

Continuing their CSR initiative year after year, Abans presented Laptops to nine deserving students. With this presentation Abans reached the important milestone of presenting the 100th Laptop to a deserving student. This is the fifth occasion on which Abans have presented free Laptops to deserving students as a part of their continuous CSR initiative “From Your Laptop to Their Future”.

The presentation was made at the 3rd Floor Training Room of Abans Head Office in Kollupitiya on Thursday 20th October 2016 in the presence of Mr. Chathura Jayawardana, General Manager of Abans, Dimuthu Wickremasinghe, Brand Manager of Abans, students and their parents.

Students were selected from the response Abans received to their newspaper advertisement regarding the 5th phase of their CSR initiative “From Your Laptop to Their Future”. Those students who were in higher education were given preference as they were the ones who needed the Laptops most. The nine students who received laptops were: M.M.Shamil– Lunugala, W.P.L.C.Jayawardana – Ipologama, Yasiptha Jayasinghe- Karadeniya, K.A.N. Madushani- Ellawala, R.D.I.H. Ranasinghe- Nugegoda, T.A.J. Shashikala Thembuwana - Wariyapola, Vihanga Kavinda- Ratnapura, S.M.G. Senanayaka- Kuliyapitiya and J.A.S.A.Jayamini- Kadawatha

Abans have always given high priority to youth development and education, and they have concentrated their CSR initiatives towards this area. Understanding the importance that computers provide in today’s world, in education and in enhancing the knowledge of students, Abans is very concerned about providing IT facilities to under privileged students and have taken up the challenge, as a CSR initiative, to provide Laptops to deserving students. It is a pity that very few students in Sri Lanka have the privilege of on-line access to a wealth of educational information which seriously affects their ability to improve their knowledge of information and technology skills. Abans having realized the implications of this digital divide have made a genuinely heartfelt move by launching “From Your Laptop to Their Future” to empower bright young minds who will be the future leaders of our nation.
