
Machu Picchu is in Peru, South America. It is 7000 feet above sea level. Machu Picchu was built during the days of the Incan Empire around 1450 AD.
The Incan Empire is a kingdom which was established in the Andes region of South America. The real name of Machu Picchu Is Huayna Picchu. ‘Machu’ means old and ‘Picchu’ means mountain.
Archaeologists say that Machu Picchu was estimated to have had a population between 300-1,000 people during 1400’s. But in 16th century the people who lived in Machu Picchu were virtually wiped away by Spanish invaders.
After that, an explorer named Hiram Bingham found Machu Picchu on July 24,1911. It was declared a World Heritage site in 1983 and designated as one of the seven wonders of the world in 2007 because of its historical, cultural, architectural and archaeological importance. The famous places in Machu Picchu are the ceremonial centres for the Incas.
If you like to visit the awesome wonder Machu Picchu you need to hike for three to five days to reach the top. On an average it will take four days and three nights to go to the top of Machu Picchu. Now, Machu Picchu is the most visited tourist got spot in Peru.
