Vesak is an important religious festival in Sri Lanka. This festival is celebrated by Buddhists. It commemorates Prince Siddhartha’s Birth, Enlightenment and the Buddha’s Parinirvana.
On Vesak Poya day Buddhists observe sil and attend many religious activities such as visiting temples and doing a aamisa and prathipaththi poojas.
Children make Vesak lanterns and decorate their houses.
The streets are also decorated with lamps and lanterns. People also build Vesak pandals, organise dansalas and Vesak zones.
During Vesak, people usually go sight- seeing to enjoy the beauty of Vesak. This is a colourful festival in Sri Lanka.
