Young artist Limasha Wijesekera held her first solo exhibition on October 30, 2022 at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery in Horton Place, Colombo 7. Seventy-two pictures and sketches were exhibited at this event where the Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena was the chief guest.
Limasha’s creativity blossomed when she was very young. Her first creations were pictures drawn on birthday cards for her parents. Her father Mahasen and mother Chameesha were quick to recognise their little daughter’s talent and gave her all the encouragement and support she needed.
This child artist started her education at Musaeus College, Colombo 7 and at the age of five Limasha had the distinction of having one of her paintings chosen by the school authorities to be exhibited at an art exhibition. The exhibition was held at the J.D.A. Perera Art Gallery in Colombo.
Limasha draws and paints whenever she feels like it. She will capture whatever takes her fancy on canvas or paper. She favours shades of blue and pink.
However, her paintings have vibrant colours such as oranges and deep greens too. Apart from her drawing Limasha is a keen athlete and squash player. She was the Under-10 Athletic Champion in 2022 at her current school, Gateway College, Rajagiriya. She also likes to read non-fiction books and the late Princess Diana is a favourite topic of reading. She is also huge fan of K-pop. Another favourite pastime of Limash’s is playing with younger sister, Thimasha.
As for the future, Limasha hopes to widen her horizons in the world of art.
