The Pinnawala Elephant orphanage is the first such orphanage in Sri Lanka. It is in the Kegalle district. The orphanage is an attractive place for tourists to observe elephants and tuskers.
It is also a place visited by Sri Lankans who are very proud of it. This is a place where elephants are treated and raised in a good environment. It is open at 8.00 a.m. and closes at 5.00 p.m.
At this place elephants are fed well and cleaned properly. These elephants are taken to the river at 12.00 noon where they enjoy bathing and then the cute little baby elephants are fed with milk. Tourists pay and enjoy feeding fruits to the elephants.
And in this place they treat elephants with much care and cure their diseases. At this orphanage there are African and Asian adults and young or baby elephants. As Sri Lankans we should be proud to have such an orphanage in Sri Lanka which is visited by tourists from all parts of the world.
