The Count of Monte Cristo was written by Alexandre Dumas. It tells us about French society during a past era. The main character in this novel is Edmond Dantes.
The story opens on a cheerful note with Dantes sailing into port and being made the captain of the ship Pharaon.
But a conspiracy is hatched, and Dantes is arrested on the day of his marriage with Mercedes. While in the prison he meets Abbe Faria who tells him about a treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. Dantes escapes from jail and finds the treasure. He then becomes rich and he is known as the Count of Monte Cristo. This story is very adventurous. From this novel we learn about courage, bravery, deceit, fraud, revenge and death. So, young readers will enjoy this story like me.
