Elementary students of YORK International School, (YISK) Kadawatha displayed their creativity by bringing all that they needed for a typical day in school in a program titled Anything- but-a-backpack! It was held recently with the aim of relieving their exam stress and reigniting their spirits.
It was also meant to raise awareness and educate students on how thousands of children around the world take their necessities to school in different receptacles due to their inability to afford a backpack. Students at YISK had come up with fabulous ideas to carry their belongings, such as, cloth baskets, toolboxes, biscuit tins, old clothes made into bags, used cardboard boxes and even empty water cans recycled into backpacks.
The entire effort unfolded starting off as the brainchild of the Principal of YORK International school, Kadawatha, Wathsala Senanayake with the collaboration of the class teachers of the elementary section.
