Air pollution first affected only the people of large cities. But the use of vehicle has spread to our cities far into the country.
Busy highways run through the fields and hills. Air pollution has now spread from cities to small towns and villages.
Noise pollution
The noise made by vehicles, trains and large airplanes also disturb people.
We have been cutting down trees to build roads, houses and factories. Some factories pollute not only the air but also the water.
It has become impossible for birds and animals to live in many places due to pollution.
If something is not done soon, someday people will find that there is no place for them to live either.
We have to do something before it is too late.
It is now or never. Don’t you think so? We should remember what a former President in America, John Kennedy said.
“Don’t ask what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country”.
Here is a list of things we can do at home to solve the problem.
1. Plant more trees because trees help to make the air cleaner.
2. Use as little paper as you can. It takes twenty trees to make a ton of paper.
3. It is better to use bicycles than cars and motorcycles.
Bicycles don’t use oil, nor do they pollute the air.
4. It is better to use buses and trains than cars and motorcycles, because they can carry more people than cars.
5. Save electricity at home because part of our electricity is produced by burning oil.
6. Don’t use more soap than you need for washing and bathing.
7. Don’t throw away empty cans and bottles. We should collect the cans and bottles so that they can be used to make new ones.
This saves resources and makes the neighbourhood cleaner.
These are all small things, but every one of them helps us to get back our clean air and water as well as a clean earth and home.
I will conclude with Kennedy’s words.
“One man can change the world. And every man should try it”.
Let’s put Kennedy’s words into practice.
