
Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon. He travelled on the American spaceship Apollo.
He was born on August 5, 1950 at his grandparents’ farm in Wapakonela,USA.
From his young age Armstrong was very interested in aeroplanes and read every book he could find about them. He started taking flying lessons and got his licence on his 16th birthday.
Armstrong entered the University of Purdue on a US Naval Scholarship. He graduated in 1955 and became a Commander. In 1962, he joined NASA as an astronaut. Then he was chosen to lead the Apollo 11 Mission.
His co-astronauts were Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. They took off from earth on July 16,1969 and it took them two days to reach the moon.
