My favourite person

24 April, 2022

My favourite person is Constance Briscoe. She is one of the black female judges in America. Her childhood was very sad. Constance Briscoe was her birth name. But, she was called Clare. Her mother’s name was Carmon Briscoe and her father’s name was George Briscoe.

When she was very young her mother and father separated. All the children were sent to live with their mother.

Her mother loved all her children except Constance. She had quite a dark skin, the same as her father. But, her mother didn’t like that skin colour. That’s why her mother hates Constance. When Clare’s friends came to their house unexpectedly, her mother pretended to be a kind and good-hearted. But, Clare is the only one who knows her mother’s true nature. When Clare’s father went to see his children, her mother didn’t allow her father to see them.

From a very young age, Constance had a dream to be a lawyer one day. But her mother told her, “you’re ugly. No one will give you permission to enter the university. And you are very impolite”.

But Constance threw these jeers and insults away, she studied hard to enter the university.

One day in summer, her mother left the house with her new husband and children, letting Constance live alone in the house. Her mother tried to discourage Constance in that way because Constance was working hard to enter the university. Constance was not discourage by that, but she had to fend for herself. Finally, she found a job, as a waitress in a hotel. She was paid, some dollars by the hotel which was enough to live on.

One year later, Constance qualified to enter the university, and she chose Law as her subject. She worked hard and passed all exams in the university. Two years later she graduated as a lawyer.

After four years from then she was promoted as a judge when she passed the examination for judges. Finally, she won in life.

I appreciate and admire her willpower. There are two reasons as to why she became my favourite person. The first one is that I like her willpower. The other one is my dream of being a judge one day. Finally, I like to say,

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”
