
Uthmani Sara Dissanayake, a student of Grade 5 had made her alma mater GM /P arakrama Maha Vidyalaya proud by representing Sri Lanka at the International Digital Mathematics Competition conducted by Japan recently.
She got this opportunity due to her excellent performances at several preliminary competitions and her capability to stand among the best five competitors at national level.
Children from Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia took part in this competition.
This was held on line on November 11, 2021 and it’s sponsored by the Department of Education in Japan to improve the knowledge of mathematics of the children of neighbouring countries.
The Surala Ninja Dalisa program and some other home based learning programs are implemented under this.
A zoom awards ceremony was held on December 11, 2021 to felicitate the winners of various competitions which had been conducted throughout the year and several Sri Lankans were among them.
She extends her gratitude to her principal, teachers, parents and all the others for their continued support and encouragement throughout this journey. Uthmani hopes to do her higher studies in the maths stream and her ambition is to become an engineer.
