What is upcycling?

19 December, 2021

Upcycling means reusing an object to create a higher quality than the original one.

Upcycling is also known as creative reuse.

The importance of upcycling it reduces landfill, and waste of money. It also reduces air and land pollution. An example is turning an old bath tub into a chair. We can upcycle an old light bulb into a candle or create a windo cover using an old picture. An empty toilet paper holder can be turned in to a pencil holder. These are a few examples of what can be upcycled at home.

You can also upcycle products and sell them. Sri Lanka uses fewer upcycle products so there is less money coming to the Government.

Upcycling is very popular in Germany. Seventy percent of the packaging material is made using up cycled material.

To make a pencil holder from a tin can, cover the can with glue and paste a cloth over it. Then, decorate your can.
