Ananda Samarakoon was born on January 13,1911. He was a gifted musician and composer. He wrote many Sinhala songs. Ase madura jeewanaye geetha, Akka akka and Ara balannako. Ananda Samarakoon 
founded a musical tradition of our own.
He composed the country’s National Anthem. He was on also a talented painter. This eminent artiste passed away on April 5,1962.
