Here’s What You Will Need:
Recycled toilet paper rolls (2 per flower)
Paint
Clear string (to hang up the wreath)
Tools
Paintbrush
Glue (Binder glue if possible)
Scissors
Optional:
Round plastic beads, buttons, other decorations or something else to add to the centre of each flower
Let’s Get Started
STEP 1: PREP & PAINT THE TOILET PAPER ROLLS
As always when working with toilet paper rolls, make sure you’ve removed all pesky bits of toilet paper still sticking to the roll. The best way to do this is to carefully use the sharp edge of a pair of scissors. Like in the photo below.
Once your toilet paper rolls are clean, it’s time to paint them! As you can see in the photos, the inside of the roll is painted in one colour, and the outside a different, but similar color. The flowers can have about six petals and they can each be about an inch thick (makes for a more substantial wreath). If you, do it this way, you need to paint two rolls the same color for each flower.
STEP 2: CUT THE TOILET PAPER ROLLS
Once your toilet paper rolls are painted and dried, it’s time to cut up. You can cut yours in 1-inch intervals. This will give you four and a half pieces from each roll, and if you have painted two rolls per flower, you will have eight pieces and two halves to work with for each flower. You might only need six so you can pick out the prettiest pieces to make the flower and set the extra two and two halves aside to play with later.
STEP 3: MAKE THE FLOWERS
Now that you’ve got all the pieces ready to become the petals of your flowers for your flower wreath, it’s time to glue them together. Easier said than done.
The petals need to be relatively skinny for all six points to come together in the center. They’re not going to meet exactly, so you may glue them together at a point a little higher up on the sides. For flowers like these, it is better to use a glue that dries quickly. Another tip to make it easier to glue together: glue three pieces (half of the flower) together at a time.
STEP 4: GLUE THE FLOWERS TOGETHER INTO A FLOWER WREATH
Make sure all your flowers are completely dried before you start making your wreath. You’re going to be moving them around a lot so be careful because they could detach easily.
STEP 5: ADD BEADS, A SIGN, ETC.
Your toilet paper roll flower wreath is essentially done at this point. But it doesn’t really look complete, does it? You may take some beads, buttons or any other decorations you may like and glue them to the middle like in the image below. You may even make a sign and add it to the wreath if you like. Get creative and add your own finishing touches! Once you’re done, hang it up!
If you have extra flowers, unused pieces or decorations, you may hang them up as extra decorations or even make a small flower pot with other recycled material like in the pictures below.
