Joanne Rowling, better known in the world as J.K. Rowling, the author and creator of the celebrated Harry Potter series was born on July 31, 1965 in Bristol, England. The Harry Potter series became international blockbusters, selling almost 500 million copies over the world. They have also been translated into 78 languages. It is not only the books which are famous but also Harry Potter Merchandise, series of movies and video games that made Rowling one of the wealthiest people in the entertainment industry.
J.K. Rowling attended England’s University of Exeter, where she studied French. She worked for Amnesty International in London and as a language instructor in Portugal.
She was inspired to write Harry Potter when she was travelling in a train from Manchester in England to London one day in 1990. She began to write the first book in that night. She finished the first book while she was living in Edinburgh, Scotland and the book was published by Bloomsbury publishers in August 1996.
Harry Potter was not the only book Rowling wrote. She also wrote Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch through the Ages, sales of Beedie the Bard, Casual Vacncy and the Cuckoo’s Calling.
Out of all the books, “Harry Potter” is my favourite. Children and adults are attracted by the story of a wizard boy, Harry and his adventures with his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger and Harry’s efforts against the greatest wizard of all time, the evil Lord Voldermort.
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books have made me read books by other authors too!
