The Department of Agriculture has introduced a new variety of fruit, GAC fruit which can be cultivated in both dry and wet zones.
It has already been successfully experimented at the Eraminiyaya Farm, Angunukolapelessa. According to agricultural experts the new GAC fruit is so nutritious that it contains vitamin A and carrotinoids ten times higher than in carrot.
The young plant with its leaves can be used as a vegetable and as a fruit when its ripe.
In addition, sweets as jam, fruit juice and Dry Arill can also be made from it.
