Heritage

23 December, 2018

Sri Lanka is famous for its heritage. The Temple of the Tooth, Sigiriya and Ruwanweliseya Stupa are some of the most popular heritage sites. But there are some historical places which many people don’t know. In November my family and I visited two of these places.

‘Degaldoruwa’, a huge rock cut so well that it seems to be a cave is situated a few kilometers away from the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. It has some of the most famous wall paintings in the world. This architecture is stunning because it is made of a huge rock which is cut into a cave, leaving some slabs for pillars.

The Galmaduwa temple is another amazing historical heritage. Its structure is the most beautiful feature. It is also in Kandy. We must protect our heritage sites.
