In a time when the world itself has become available at the touch of a finger, humanity still tends to dwell over the things and chances they were unable to achieve in life. This leads to humanity missing out on the opportunities that were made available for them. When one chance is lost, another one emerges. Sadly, not many people have grasped this truth. We see many motivational speakers, mentors and organizations trying to make a difference in the world by bringing the message “there is nothing called impossible”, and yet, the world proves that it needs more of such brave individuals to make the world a better place to live in.
Throughout his childhood, Buddhika Ekanayake was an individual who showed an immense determination to excel in everything he put his mind to. From academics to recreational activities, such as, learning to play various musical instruments, he proved himself to be an overachiever in everything he set his mind to.
Ekanayake is an individual with a determined mission to give out a message. He is not an ordinary individual; he was born without arms or legs and has lived his entire life learning how to overcome the obstacles that have been put in his life’s way. Even though he was unable to complete tasks and chores on his own since he was a child, the way a normal person could, he has been able to teach himself to do his own chores the way his body enables him to do, over the years.
It was during this journey that he met Kasun Pushpakumara, who had a vision to empower the society in general, by helping to build self-motivation and determination. Together they created a program, namely “JeewithayaAran”, a motivational program that travels around the country in the hope of creating positivity and inspiration in people, taking into example the life of Ekanayake and the will power that enabled him to develop an independent life for himself.
“I met Ekanayake as a musician. He is skilled at playing the keyboard and through his music he strives to send out a message to the world, that even though you may have to face many hurdles in life you will still be able to jump over them and win, just as the way he did” states Pushpakumara.
The program, JeewithayaAran has been conducted throughout the country for various organizations, for example, at Brandix, Minuwangoda in honor of Women’s Day, and at Angunukolapalassa prison for the prison inmates. The program touches on various topics addressed in life, with a common goal in mind, i.e. to tell the people not to give up on life, but move forward with its ups and downs.
The program is set to be rescheduled for June 5 2018 for the Welfare Association of the Education Ministry, Isurupaya, on the invitation of the Ministry Secretary. It is set to talk about efficiency and how a person can build his/her personality through being efficient with every task they do.
There are over 9,400 individuals like Ekanayake, who are crippled, in Sri Lanka, though not many have had the willingness to come out and tell the world about their journey, set on a different path from the others. The message given through such programs help people who are contemplating giving up on life, to get back up, to work hard towards a goal and to win in life.
