Everybody likes to go on trips. We go on trips with our families and friends to enjoy and explore new places. However, going on a trip with school friends and teachers is a totally new experience.
Last Friday was very exciting for me as the Grade 5 students went to the museum and the natural history museum on their annual field trip. Early morning, there were eight buses in the ‘Electra’ ground and we eagerly hopped on to buses to begin our journey.
Everybody was very happy and we started to sing. I sat with one of my friends and we were talking about the mind-blowing things we can see in the two museums. It took us 30 minutes to reach the mansion-like museum in Colombo. We first went to the natural history museum.
We saw the amazing figures of the mouse-deer, rabbit, Indian sloth bear and Sri Lankan leopard.
They were handcrafted very well as they looked like real animals.
We went to the minerals, amphibian and reptile sections. I was surprised to see the various reptiles well preserved in jars with chemicals.
Next, we went to the cultural museum; we saw Buddha statues, ancient coins, bows, arrows, stone scripts, clothing and weapons. They were very old and well protected by the museum staff.
When I saw the artistic throne, sword and the gem-studded crown of our last King, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe I felt proud of my country.
After learning so many valuable things, we ate ice-cream outside the museum premises and we came back to school.
When we came back to the class everybody was joyous and happy.
We can enjoy such memorable trips throughout our school life.
