My country

4 December, 2022

My motherland is Sri Lanka. It is one of the most popular Asian countries. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Thambapanni, Ceylon and Lankadeepa are some of the other names by which it was called. My motherland has a long history. It was a British colony before 1948. On February 4, 1948 our national heroes won my country’s independence.

Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is the administrative capital of Sri Lanka. The main language is Sinhala. Sri Lanka has four main religions. They are Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. My country is a democratic country. It is rich in many natural resources and Sri Lanka has a lot of beautiful places. They include amazing parks and gardens, attractive waterfalls, rivers, forests and many others. Plants and flowers increase the beauty.

The Sigiriya rock fortress is a wonderful and historic site in Sri Lanka. It has amazing arts. It’s called ‘Sigiri Bithusithuwam’.

Sri Lanka’s highest mountain is Piduruthalagala and the Mahaweli is the longest river in Sri Lanka. Our national flag is called the Lion flag. Sri Lanka’s national flower is the blue water lily and the national bird is the jungle fowl. The national animal is the giant squirrel and the national sport is volleyball.

My country is the most beautiful country and I love my country very much.
