Snakes

9 October, 2022

Snakes are reptiles belonging to the second largest group of reptiles after lizards. There are two groups of snakes in the world, venomous and non venomous.

Sixty percent of the snakes are venomous. There are a few different types of venoms and they are the Neurotoxins, Hemotoxins and Cytotoxiins. Neurotoxins attack the nervous system. Many snakes have neurotoxic venom, but each snake species has its own unique venom which makes each snake produce its own special venom. The cytotoxic venom attacks the heart and the brain.

Apart from that 40% of the snakes are non-venomous, and their way of killing is by constricting their prey. They squeeze their prey to death, the more their prey beathes the more the snake squeezes.

There are over 3,000 species of snakes in the world and some of my favourite ones are the black mambas, the boa constrictor, Mozambique spitting cobra, sand pythons, rainbow pythons and king cobras. Many people hate snakes but if you get to know them, they are not so bad except for the venomous ones. Even if you don’t like snakes, please don’t hurt them.
