Maxim Gorky was a great Russian writer.He was born on March 28, 1868 in Novogorod, near the Volga river in Russia. His birth name was Alexy Maksimovch Peshcov.

But later, he changed his name to Maxim Gorky.His parents died when he was very young. His grandfather was a cruel drunkard. But his grandmother was kind hearted and very talented in creating fairy tales. In 1695, Vladimir Lenin met Maxim Gorky and offered him a job in a newspaper company.

In 1905, Gorky was deported to an island near Italy. He wrote his great novel “Mother” during his deportation. In 1924, Gorky died of a lung infection. The Underground, The Uncultured and Twenty Six Men and a maiden are some of his greatworks.
