The Snow Queen – Final part

29 May, 2022

Continued from last week

Living at the Snow Queen’s castle Kay did not remember Gerda of his past life. He also did not know that Gerda was looking for him. The castle had many halls each, one colder and bleaker than the other.

Kay

As Gerda was running towards the castle, Kay was seated at the foot of the Snow Queen’s throne playing with some pieces of ice.

They were in the largest hall of the castle and on a frozen lake in it.

He was blue with the cold and his heart was frozen. He was trying to make the word ETERNITY.

The Snow Queen had told him that if he could spell that word she would set him free and give him a new pair of ice skates.

Then the Snow Queen flew away saying she had to attend to work all over the world. Kay had no idea that Gerda was coming towards the castle.

Gerda ran towards the castle. The enormous front door was wide open and Gerda ran in. She looked in many halls and finally came to the largest hall where Kay was.

But Kay was stiff with cold. And as the shards of the evil mirror were still in his eyes and heart he did not recognise Gerda and she started crying.

Gerda’s warm and loving tears fell on Kay’s chest and went right through to his heart. They melted the shard of the magician’s evil mirror stuck there. Then, Kay started to cry and his tears melted the shards of glass in his eye.

Now, Kay recognised Gerda and the children hugged each other joyfully. As the children watched, the pieces of ice Kay had been playing with started dancing and formed the word ETERNITY. Kay was free!

Hand in hand, the children ran from the castle. Out in the snow filled garden stood the same reindeer which had taken Gerda to the castle.

Snowy landscape

The children mounted the reindeer and it sped swiftly through the snowy landscape headed for the children’s home town.

After a while, they reached Gerda and Kays home town. The reindeer dropped them at Kay’s grandmother’s home and they kissed the reindeer goodbye.

The children were very happy to see that nothing had changed.

Gerda and Kay lived happily ever after.
