The wonders of our country

Sri Lanka is a small country in the Indian Ocean. It is a small and beautiful country. Sri Lanka is a developing country . It is also known as Ceylon, Thambapanni, and the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. Sri Lanka has nine provinces and 25 districts. Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam are religions here. The majority of Sri Lankans are Buddhists. We all live in harmony.

When you look at Sri Lanka’s past there has been many strong and great kings who have made priceless contributions to the country’s development. They have built dams and places of religious worship. There are also many books written about their lifestyles. King Devnampiyatissa, King Pandukhabaya, King Vasaba and King Mahasen are some of Sri Lanka’s great kings. They played a major part in the history and development of Sri Lanka.

The jungle fowl is Sri Lanka’s national bird and the nil manel is the national flower.

Sri Lanka matha written by Ananda Samarakoon is the National Anthem of Sri Lanka and it describes the beauty of Sri Lanka.

It is one of the main country’s exporting tea. Rubber and gems are also major foreign exchange earners. These are important factors in the development of Sri Lanka. It is famous for tourism and it is a major foreign exchange earner. Foreigners enjoy visiting this country and bring foreign exchange to the country.

I am proud to be a Sri Lankan.
