Sports - an important part of a student’s life

6 March, 2022

Sports and human beings are inseparable from the day man was born on earth. Physical struggle for the existence and survival of man later evolved as sports.

The sports meet is the first important program in any school calendar. Students divided into separate houses compete displaying their athletic skills. Matches and tournaments for cricket, soccer, volleyball, elle, rugger, swimming and hockey and other games are organised throughout the year by schools and the higher educational authorities.

Almost every school has its own playground. Sports equipment is obtained from the Ministry, donors and with the money that comes through facilities fees and various funds. A few schools maintain separate courts for different sports and have their own swimming pools.

Though the expenditure on sports by the Government or a school is relatively high owing to the prevailing economical conditions of the country, it continues as sports is an active agent in developing a balanced personality. It helps develop all the aspects of an individual such as mental, physical, social, and emotional components.

Exercise for a strong muscled body, healthy respiratory and blood circulation system. Relaxation and delight gained out of sports creates a relieved mind and all this makes a sound individual Sports also promotes team spirit, friendship, unity and leadership qualities in people. To be flexible to accept victory or defeat with the same mentality is a quality that can be learnt through sports.

All the benefits of sports will create a friendly society through a well-balanced person. Therefore, every student should engage himself or herself at least in one sport.
