
There are so many mountains in the world which are fascinating. Out of these the highest mountain in the world is Mount Everest.
Mount Everest is also called Chomolungma or Sagarmatha. This mountain rises 40 cm per century. It is about 60 million years old. Everest has been summited over 9,000 times. Mount Everest is between Nepal and China in the Himalayan Mountain range.
As it is the highest mountain, its height is 29,028 feet or 8,848 metres. Everest is indeed the highest point above global mean sea level. It was established in 2020 by China and Nepal.
Mount Everest attracts many climbers, including highly experienced mountaineers. Mount Everest was first climbed in 1953. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary were the first to climb Mount Everest.
The first woman to climb Mount Everest was Junko Tabei. Sri Lankans have also climbed this mountain.
The first Sri Lankan woman to do so was Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala. People try to create Guinness records by trying to climb it.
