Cookery Corner

I did some electrical work with my father wiring our new building. wiring. So, I decided to make a cake for an electrician as my birthday cake.
First, I made a butter cake with the following ingredients
Sugar 350g Butter 350g
Flour 350g Eggs 6
Half a cup of milk
Vanilla 1 tea spoon
Baking Powder 3 tea spoons

Method
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add eggs to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.
Add some vanilla and beat well until sugar is completely dissolved.
Mix together well the flour and the baking powder.
Pre-heat the oven to 180C0.
Grease a round baking tray with butter and then line it with oil paper.
Add flour lightly to the mixture, using a large spatula or mixture hooks
Mix continuously with milk until the mixture is smooth.
Distribute the cake batter evenly in the baking tray.
Bake at 180C0 for 30 – 40 minutes, the cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.


Then, I made the chocolate cake using the following ingredients

Sugar 350g Butter 300g
Olive oil 3 tbs Eggs 6
Chocolate powder 100g
Cake flour 250g
Half a cup of milk
Baking powder 2-½ tea spoons
Baking soda ½ tea spoon

Method
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add eggs into the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.
Add some vanilla and beat well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add olive oil and mix well.
Then add flour, baking powder, baking soda and chocolate powder. Mix well. Pre-heat the oven up to 180C0.
Grease a round baking tray with butter and then line it with oil paper. Add flour lightly into the mixture, using a large spatula or mixture hooks
Mix continuous with milk until the mixture is smooth.
Distribute the cake batter evenly in the baking tray.
Bake at 180C0 for 30 – 40 minutes, the cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Take both cakes from the oven, remove from the baking tray and let them cool completely.

To make the icing
ingredients
Butter 100g
Icing sugar 500g
Vanilla extract 1 tsp
Milk 50 ml
Method
In a medium bowl, mix icing sugar and butter with an electric mixer on low speed.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of milk to mixture
Beat at medium speed until mixture is light and fluffy.
To make butter cream icing; Pour the milk gradually if you need to loosen the mixture
To make chocolate icing add 3 tbsp of chocolate powder to the above ingredients
To make hard butter icing; add more icing sugar a tbsp at a time and beat well.


Decorating the cake

Cooled cakes are domed on top, use a knife to slice a thin layer off the tops to create a flat surface. Then cut the two cakes in to two equal layers.
Take the cake board and apply some icing on the centre of the board, Place a chocolate cake layer and apply chocolate icing
Then place a butter cake layer and apply butter cream icing on it. Do the same to the other two layers.
Cover the layered cake with a thin layer of butter cream icing and refrigerate for 5 minutes.
Using edible food colouring, colour hard butter icing to make tools. I made tools by looking at my actual tools.
Cover the top of the cake with a sheet of white hard butter icing. Cover around the cake with sky blue butter cream icing, all letters and numbers are cut by icing cutters.
Finally place the tools on the cake anyway you like.
My mother helped and guided me when making this cake.
