Hello children,
Today, we are facing one of the worst pandemics history has ever known, the Covid–19 pandemic. It has affected many countries both big and small and Sri Lanka is no exception.
The Government has started mass scale vaccinations and it will offer protection to a certain extent. However, we need to protect ourselves.
Actually, our safety is in our hands.
We must follow health guidelines. Always wear a mask, keep the one-metre distance and wash and sanitise hands frequently. We must also wash and sanitise our hands frequently. Public places and public transport must be avoided as much as possible. Celebrations such as birthday parties and weddings must be avoided and even you should not events organise such. The bottom line is that people should not crowd together. Along with the coronavirus Sri Lanka is now facing the threat of Dengue. As you know this is caused by the Dengue mosquito and again our protection is in our hands.
We need to keep the environment clean. Any receptacle that can collect water must be discarded. Even king coconuts should be split open after drinking and the husks safely disposed of.
The use of mosquito screens on windows and doors and the use of mosquito nets too would help. Mosquito repellant is another safeguard we must use.
However, the most important thing is to keep the environment clean.
Until next time, Stay safe Aunty Nira
