Dear Children,
Today, I am focusing on a very important aspect of life – your safety. Safety or personal safety can mean several things.
One is guarding yourself from accidents by looking where you are going, always being conscious of your surroundings, for example, crossing railway tracks and crossing busy roads.
Another safety precaution is not to be reckless when handling dangerous things such as matches, fire, fire crackers and implements that can cause you harm. For instance, it can take only a second for a carelessly handled saw to slip and cut your hand very badly.
Be very careful when travelling in vehicles, buses and trains. Don’t travel on the footboard or put half your body and head out of windows. Do not try to go from carriage to carriage in a moving train.
You must also be very careful when using the Internet and social media like
facebook It is better if these activities are done with adult supervision and help.
Animals are lovable but be careful when handling stray animals. They may be carriers of rabies.
Today, society has many people who will not hesitate to harm others for their gain. Drug dealers for instance will try and get you addicted to drugs no matter that you are a young child. One common method of doing this is to offer sweets or other food items laced with a drug. Once you taste it you will want more and become addicted. So, dear children don’t accept sweets and other food from strangers however, nice they seem to be. Don’t be over friendly with people you do not know.
Another thing you should never do is to accept lifts or rides from unknown people as once you get into the vehicle they may harm you.
Apart from strangers there may be some people known to you and your family who may try to harm you. If any such person approaches you be sure to tell your parents and elders about it.
So, children, always be ALERT about yourselves and others.
Till next time
Stay safe
Aunty Nira
