Hello Children,
Today is Father’s Day when we honour and show our fathers our love for them. In May we celebrated Mother’s Day in the same way.
But our love and respect for our parents must not be only on these two days. It must be there always.
To parents the most precious things in life are their children and they will sacrifice anything for children. We must learn to appreciate this and make things easier for them. What do parents expect from children? They would like to have love, respect, family unity and loyalty.
They would also want obedience, politeness and good manners from their children. These are not hard things to do are they? Maybe sometimes you will feel that your parents are being unfair.
Then, instead of throwing tantrums and rebelling talk it over with them. Listen to what they have to say and why they are saying no to whatever you want. If you keep an open mind you will see that they have a good reason to say no.
Or else, take time and explain to them why you want to do what you want to do and if it is within reason they are sure to come around to your viewpoint.
All parents have dreams for their children and this includes doing well in studies and extracurricular activities. They will work themselves to the bone and sacrifice much to give you the best in these areas. On your part what you must do is to study well and put your best foot forward in your extracurricular activities and bring joy to your parents.
Sibling rivalry and disharmony is very upsetting for parents. So, try to be happy and get on with your brothers and sisters.
Try and treat your parents as friends. Always be open and transparent with them.
Show your love and care for them. Do things for them like helping around the house or the garden. Ask them whether they need a cup of tea or a snack and make it. Hugs and kisses will always be welcome.
Once you are an adult and your parents are old do not forget or neglect them.Give them all the love and care you possibly can.
So, dear children, until next time
Good luck
Aunty Nira.
