The Vesak Poya marks the birth of Prince Siddhartha, His Enlightenment and the Buddha’s attainment of Nirvana.
Birth of Prince Siddhartha
Prince Siddhartha’s parents were King Suddhodana and Queen Mahamaya Devi. King Suddhodana's kingdom was named Kapilavastu. When it was time for Queen Mahamaya Devi to give birth she set off to go to her parent’s kingdom of Kimbulwath. On the way at Lumbini she saw a beautiful Sal Uyana and there she gave birth to Prince Siddhartha.
Enlightenment
After many years of learning and searching Prince Siiddhartha, an ascetic attained Enlightenment and became the Gauthama Buddha. This happened at Buddha Gaya in India.
Parinirvana
The Buddha attained Nirvana at Kusinara in India.
