King Tutankhamun’s tomb

23 May, 2021

An amazing discovery was made on November 4,1922 by a British archaeologist, Howard Carter. He uncovered the steps leading to the tomb of Tutankhamun which was hidden for 3,000 years. A wealthy British man named Lord Carnarvon financed Howard Carter’s excavations to find the tomb.

Ancient Egyptians believed in life after death and there were many rituals performed during the burial of a pharaoh.

Tutankhamun was a young king, who ascended the throne at the age of nine in 1336 BC. His father was King Akhenaten who became a pharaoh in 1352 BC and died in 1336 BC.

There were many buried treasures inside his tomb. His tomb contained many types of bread, clothes, weapons, a royal chariot, brooches, guardian statues, model boats and priceless objects to use after a pharaoh’s death. The inner coffin of Tutankhamun was made of 135kg of pure gold.

Later, the objects in the tomb were safely shifted to Cairo. History records that king Tutankhamun ruled only for a few years. King Tutankhamun died at the age of nineteen.
