The Vesak Festival falls during May every year. It marks three important events in the life of the Buddha. They are his birth, enlightment and the passing away or the attainment of nirvana. Buddhists engage in many religious activities on this day.
On this day we decorate our houses with coloured lights, Vesak lanterns and other decorations. We go to the temple and offer flowers to the Buddha. We also listen to Dhamma sermons and many people observe Sil. Pandals are erected in public places and people go on pilgrimages to sacred places.
