Bella Hadid takes social media break for mental health

31 January, 2021

Bella Hadid said she took a small break from social media to improve her mental health. Now that she’s returned, Bella said she’s tapping into her spirituality and has a “closer relationship” with herself.

The model posted a series of images to Instagram on Thursday, writing in the caption that she took a mental health break from the platform.

“I took some time away to reflect and learn about myself in a way that would be too much to explain at the moment , but with time I will express,” she wrote. “The memories and fortune I came back with are pure wisdom, a closer relationship with myself & my spirituality, a sense of self-love that I have always lacked, a few great friends, and these books that saw me through.”

One of the pictures in the series was a stack of self-help and spirituality books. Bella also posted photos of crystals, of herself on a horse, and of some coloured pencils. During her break, Bella wrote that she “found myself, my strength and my light again.” The time away, she wrote, was beneficial for her mental health and she urged others to take time out of their lives to care for that aspect of their wellbeing.

“Take time to get help for your mental health,” Bella wrote. “It’s worth it to get to your full potential.”

Taking time to care for your mental health is just as crucial as Bella says. For some, a break from social media and other parts of life that might be stressful can be a huge relief. Like Bella, some people turn to spirituality, nature, and wisdom-filled books to help them reset.

Others, however, need tools like therapy and mental health medication. No matter what kind of help you need, there’s no shame in seeking it out or taking time to work on your mental health.

This isn’t the first time that Bella has opened up about mental health. In 2019, she posted a reminder for World Mental Health Day.

“Everything you see online or through social media is not always what it seems..the happiness we create online while being sad in real life makes no sense, but sometimes it just seems easier to live within your sadness rather than talk about it,” she wrote. “Being kind and protective to yourself and your energy is something I’ve learned to be helpful. When the world feels like it is collapsing around you, you are allowed to ask for help... you do not have to deal w/ your mental state alone.”

Like Bella said, if you feel like there’s something impeding you from finding your best self, you should definitely figure out how to cope with it. You’ll thank yourself in the end.
