
Former Minister of Defence Ba N’Daou and the President of the National Committee for the Salvation of the people, Col.Goita have been appointed President and Vice President to lead the transition to civil administration.
However, the ECOWAS pressed for the appointment of a civilian President and Prime Minister to lead the transition.
Vice President Goita said that several reforms to security, education and the social and economic fabric would be effected to ensure a better future for the Malians at the 60th Independence Day celebrations recently. The Human Rights groups in Mali blamed the Junta for arresting senior military brass and civilian officials. Meanwhile former colonial power, France, which led the international military efforts against armed groups in Mali has also called for a swift transition. French President Emmanuel Macron told the UN General Assembly that the Malian Junta should return to civilian rule hold elections soon.
