Abdul Umar Sahan Nethmina launched first poetry book

Abdul Umar Sahan Nethmina, a student in the Sinhala Medium Senior Section of Zahira College, Colombo launched his first poetry book Thatu Sindunu Kurulla at the College premises recently. The event was held under the patronage of Principal Trizviiy Marikar. Sahan Nethmina started to read books from Grade two when he was studying at Muhudugama Junior School, Ruwanwella. After the scholarship examination, he joined Zahira College, Colombo. He started to write this book when he was in Grade eight and it took two years to complete.

It was submitted to the subject teacher Anuranga Thalpawila and was forwarded to the Vice Principal, Sinhala Senior Section Fazlin Firdhouse. He intends to write more books such as novels and short stories in the future.

Sahan thanked Principal Trizviiy Marikar, Vice Principal, Sinhala Senior Section Fazlin Firdhouse, Sectional Head Vajira Sri Dias, subject teachers Anuranga Thalpawila, A.R.M. Rafaideen, staff and students who supported him. He also thanked his parents and friends for their advice.

Former ITN Director Hassim Omar received Sahan's first copy of the book at the launch. The book launch was organised according to Sinhala customs. Chairman of the Board of Governors, Fouzul Hameed, Secretary Alawi Mukthar, Members of the Board of Governors, Artist Kalai Chelwan, parents, teachers and students graced the occasion
